Drilling waste injection

Injection is a method of drilling waste disposal which is aim at “ZERO” discharge nominally. Slurry injection is one of the methods, it is grinding or processing solids into small particles, mixing them with water or some other liquid to make a slurry, and injecting the slurry into an underground formation at pressures high enough to fracture the rock. Including slurry fracture injection, fracture slurry injection, drilled cuttings injection, cuttings reinjection, andgrind and inject.

What is drilling waste?

Drilling waste is composed of drilling fluids, cuttings, oil, chemicals that results from oil & gas drilling. Oil & Gas drilling bring up mud and other material with high hydrocarbon levels requiring special disposal practices.

Drilling waste can not disappear, only if there is drilling, these drilling waste will occur, what we can do is to less the waste by using better solids control equipments and proper management on the waste. The Environment protection dept. should regulate more for the drilling waste disposal.

Mud agitator gearbox

The gearbox on the mud agitator has a pre-selected gear ratio to maximize the suspension of solids in solution. This gear ratio provides a great increase in torque that is transmitted to the impeller. Any object that might fall into or be placed in the mud tank runs the risk of being caught by and wrapped up by the agitator.

Before operating the mud agitator, you must confirm the direction of the gear box, otherwise it will damage the gearbox.

Gravel Pack

Gravel pack is a sand-control method used to prevent production of formation sand.

What is Sand Control ?

Sand control refers to managing/minimizing sand and fine production during petroleum production. Sand and fine produced with oil and gas can cause erosion and wear of production facilities/equipments, resulting in production downtime, expensive repairs, and potentially loss of containment.

In gravel pack operations, a steel screen is placed in the wellbore and the surrounding annulus packed with prepared gravel of a specific size designed to prevent the passage of formation sand. The primary objective is to stabilize the formation while causing minimal impairment to well productivity.

Shale shaker Vibrator

GN shale shaker vibrator is Italy Oli brand vibration motor, which is with good quality and stable performance.

Linear motion shale shaker utilized 2pcs same power vibration motor, for example, GNZS703 use 2pcs 1.5KW vibrator. Their installation method is vertical.

Balanced elliptical motion shale shaker use 2 pcs different power vibration motor(1 large, 1 small), e.g. GNPS703 shale shaker use 1 pc 1.94KW + 1pc 1.0kw. Their installation method is horizontal in parallel.

Function of mud cleaner

Mud cleaner is used as the 2nd and 3rd phase separation of drilling fluids, used after shale shaker. After treated by mud cleaner, the clean drilling mud is re-used to the well, the cuttings are collected and enter into drilling waste management system.

Mud cleaner is used before decanter centrifuge, it can separate most of the large solids and less the solids content in the mud, to less the burden of decanter centrifuge so that the service life of centrifuge can last longer.

As centrifuge is the most expensive equipments in solids control system. For this reason, a good mud cleaner is much more important. Some clients do not use under-flow shaker on the mud cleaner, they only use separate desander and desilter, then all the rest works are done by the centrifuge, it will damage very fast. Or some clients only use a small screen area mud cleaner, so some of the large cuttings leaked into the tank to damage the centrifuge screw propeller and feeding pump.

Vertical cutting dryer working process

Drilling mud from rig overhead manifold flow to shale shaker, mud cleanerthe cuttings processed by shaker and mud cleaner is transferred by screw conveyor to vertical cutting dryer.

The solids processed by Vertical cutting dryer is discharged from solids discharge port, get recycled mud in mud recycling tank, which is pumped by centrifuge feeding pump to decanter centrifuge, the separated solids is discharged from centrifuge solids discharge port, the clean mud come back to solids control system.

Mud agitator lubrication

Mud agitator lubrication including gear box lubrication, bearing lubrication.

Before operation, lubricate gearbox with L-CKE/P 220~320# worn gear oil . Verify that lubricant level in the gearbox reaches the bottom of the oil level plug.

Bearings should be cleaned and re-greased on the same schedule as oil changing. After cleaning, fill bearings to one-third of their free volume.

After 100 hours of initial startup, clean gearbox inside, add new grease oil. Then lubricated at every 2500-hour interval.

Mud Balance

A mud balance is a device used to measure the density (weight) of drilling fluid. Mud balance consists of a base and graduated arm with cup, lid, knife-edge, rider, built-in spirit level, and a counterweight. A plastic carrying case is provided to hold the balance intact and in it’s working position.

Density is read at the point where the slider-weight sits on the beam at level. A mud balance can calibrated with water or other liquid of known density by adjusting the counter weight. Most balances are not pressurized, but a pressurized mud balance operates in the same manner.

What is Solids control?

Solids Control is one of the most important process of drilling. The reason for using mechanical solids control equipment is to remove detrimental drilled solids from the mud system. Effectively removing unwanted solids from the drilling fluid on the first pass through the solids control equipment is an important factor in maintaining drilling fluid properties and reducing drilling fluid cost.

Mechanical solids control equipment including: shale shaker(separated by wire mesh), mud cleaner, desander, desilter( by accelerated G-force) and decanter centrifuge.
